Stocksund Home A Slender Block With Light Cutouts And Multiple Heights

The 285 m² Stocksund home by architectural firm Tham & Videgård Arkitekter is a slender block with light cutouts, multiple heights, and a roof terrace. It spans the whole width of the property, separating the front yard to the east from the garden to the south-west. Because of its location on the site, the home is almost entirely experienced from the front, and seems as if it is only a line, a wall with a particular depth to squeeze in space for living.

The shallow block creates gaps that enable light to enter from several directions. The two double-heights, which also channel views diagonally across the interior, contribute to this. The layout is straightforward: the entrance and stairs are contained within a single box on the ground floor, and bedrooms are accessible via a central hallway on the upper floor. The interior is divided into two floors by a continuous area. As a result, travel within the house is marked by visual shortcuts, and rooms and activities overlap.

The basic construction is in situ cast concrete, which is visible in the seven-centimeter-thin cantilevered entry canopy. The usage of a system with thermal insulation as form work decreased expenses to no more than a conventional type dwelling. The inside is decorated in white plaster, with white ash flooring and wooden embellishments.

Facades are made of stained black 18 mm plywood panels (6/9/1200x900mm), which are layered and fixed on a progressively growing pine structure (50x150mm).

"This little structure is a gentle gesture of bent timber perched overhead, gently cradling a vast vista of The Hazards. For our lovely clientele, it's a haven of quiet thought, seclusion, and rest."
